Tips for Writing a Better Bar Manager Resume
1. Show that you can adapt.
For hospitality, recent years have been nothing if not turbulent. Bars and restaurants have had to adapt fast to stay afloat in unprecedented challenges brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic. So if you can claim adaptability as one of your strengths, make sure you cite that in your Profile section. Showcasing your ability to pivot under pressure on your resume can help position you as an asset and innovator amid new industry challenges.
Example
Dedicated Bar Manager with 10+ years of advancement and excellence. Natural leader and strategist who drives steady improvement in team morale, efficiency, and customer service. Expertly hone and adapt operations to new business conditions and priorities. Committed to continually broadening management skills and industry knowledge.
2. Emphasize leadership.
Use your job descriptions to showcase any experience you have overseeing others. If you haven’t held the title of “manager” yet, that’s no reason why your resume can’t show your leadership acumen. For each job description, consider adding a “Highlights” section to train the reader’s eye on the impact you’ve made in a supervisory capacity.
Example
Bartender, AJ’s, Philadelphia, PA | July 2018 to Present
- Take drink orders and pour and serve beverages to patrons of this popular local wine bar
- Collect and process customer payments in a high-volume service environment
- Clean and wipe down bar and work areas to ensure an organized, sanitary facility at all points
Highlights:
- Recently appointed to a leadership support role, helping train and mentor other bar staff; contributed to a period of improved morale and service quality despite challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic
- Introduced drink recipes that became the bar’s #1 and #3 top-selling cocktail options
3. Show how you’ve improved operations.
Bar managers are expected not just to keep the place running but also to make it run better. In a competitive and dynamic market, bars have to keep innovating and honing their operations to stay popular and profitable. So when drafting your job descriptions, try and spell out how your efforts improved the team or facility and quantify the improvement in terms of percentage or money gained. You may hesitate to include details like these because you feel like you’re bragging. Let go of that notion. Instead, think of it as simply showing the hiring manager how you’ve applied your skills and how those skills might help them improve their business.
Example
- Devised a new scheduling system that made it easier for personnel to request time off and trade shifts as needed. Measure helped reduce turnover by 8% while improving staff coverage on major holidays

How to Align Your Bar Manager Resume With the Job Description
Tailoring your resume to each bar manager job posting is a great way to give your application an extra edge. Since so many applicants fire off the same exact resume to various job openings, you can get a leg up on the competition if you take the time to make your resume relevant to each employer.
For any given job posting that interests you, look closely at the qualification requirements and highlight any you possess. Then ask, Do each of these qualifications appear in my Profile or Key Skills section? If not, consider expanding the text to include those details. For instance, say the posting is for a bar located in the business district of a major city — the clientele is primarily professionals meeting after work on weekdays. If that setting aligns with your background, you can make your resume profile more inclusive by adding a line or two about your extensive work at bars and restaurants in thriving business districts.
