Workers are constantly seeking innovative solutions to streamline their tasks and maximize productivity. By harnessing the capabilities of ChatGPT, workers are able to expedite a variety of tasks, ranging from summarizing documents and composing emails to creating engaging content and translating text.

In July, ResumeBuilder.com surveyed 750 full-time employees who use ChatGPT on a weekly basis to find out how the tool improves their efficiency.

Key findings:

  • 32% of full-time workers use ChatGPT on a weekly basis
  • 1 in 4 say the tool saves them more than 10 hours per week
  • 30% say the time savings allowed them to start a second job or side hustle
  • 78% say its helped them improve work/life balance

1 in 3 workers use ChatGPT weekly

Our survey found that 32% of full-time workers say they are using ChatGPT on a weekly basis.

The most common tasks the tool is being used for include summarizing documents (55%), writing emails (53%), content creation (52%), and translating text (45%).

“As a leader of 27 employees and 1500 real estate professionals, I personally use ChatGPT to help me quickly conduct research and refine communication assets,” says Jillian Young, president of Premiere Plus Realty, Co.

“This saves valuable time and brain cells for more important strategic thinking. What used to take hours now takes seconds. I can spend more time leading my team and building relationships with our agents and partners. I use ChatGPT to do everything from creating job descriptions, summarizing market data and trends, writing scripts, and building training course content. I especially love asking ChatGPT to respond to challenging emails in a kind and professional tone.”

1 in 4 ChatGPT users say the tool saves them more than 10 hours per week

Using ChatGPT is helping employees to work more efficiently. In fact, 4% of workers who use the tool say it saves them more than 20 hours per week, while 6% say it saves 16-20 hours, and 14% say it saves 11-15 hours. Only 7% of weekly ChatGPT users say the tool isn’t saving them anytime per week.

Additionally, one-third of those saving time using ChatGPT say they currently spend an average of 30 hours or less working per week.

Chief Career Advisor Stacie Haller says, “As companies increasingly look to integrate ChatGPT in the workplace, it’s likely in the future it will become a necessary hard skill for employees to have.”

“ChatGPT benefits not only the workers in terms of saving them time on tasks, but also organizations that use the tool can increase productivity and have a more cutting edge image. This helps companies to attract and retain talent as well as get ahead of their competitors.”

1 in 4 started a side hustle with extra time

Since starting to use ChatGPT at work and saving time by doing so, 78% of workers say their work/life balance has improved, while 52% say their mental health has. Fifty-one percent also say they have more time to spend with friends and family.

Additionally, 26% say they’ve started a side hustle and 8% a second job as a result of the time they’ve been able to save by using ChatGPT at work.

Sayem Khan, CEO and Co-Founder of 1stFunnelChallenge discusses how ChatGPT has been instrumental in increasing his productivity.

“I utilize ChatGPT daily for various tasks. On average, it saves me around 15-20 hours per week—a significant chunk of time that I would otherwise spend on content creation, keyword research, and brainstorming strategies.

“The time saved has allowed me to pursue a side hustle in domain flipping. I’ve also been able to attend webinars to enhance my knowledge in areas of digital marketing and SEO. Furthermore, I have been able to spend more time with my wife and son as I am able to automate a lot of time consuming, repetitive tasks with ChatGPT.

“ChatGPT has streamlined my workload and it has also created avenues for my personal growth, mentoring, and additional income.”
