The Bureau of Labor Statistics groups forklift operators with material moving machine operators, a category which also includes workers who operate cranes, excavators, and dredges. Jobs for all workers in this category are expected to rise by 2% from 2019 to 2029, equal to around 19,000 new positions. However, forklift operators will be on the bottom end of the growth spectrum. Although the rise of online shopping will increase the demand for forklift workers in warehousing positions, advances in automated machinery mean that fewer people are required to keep warehouses running smoothly, which can inhibit job growth.

In this type of competitive job market, it’s important to stand out from other candidates, and a strong resume can help you do that. Our downloadable resume examples include templates for experienced and entry-level forklift operators, and you’ll also find guidelines and tips on writing an effective resume and tailoring your resume for a particular job description.

How to Align Your Resume With the Job Description

Job descriptions are used by hiring managers to define what they’re looking for in a candidate. They compare resumes to the job description, looking for those that include the skills and attributes they consider key priorities. Tailoring your resume to highlight these priorities can be essential in standing out from other applicants.

To determine which skills to feature, start by reading the job description closely. Take note of the most important requirements, which are generally listed first or mentioned multiple times. Compare your resume to this list and make sure it demonstrates that you can deliver on these priorities. To help your resume stand out, focus on your most notable achievements and avoid generic descriptions or copy and pasting.
