Tips for Writing a Better Branch Manager Resume
1. Focus on your relevant management skills
You may have an extended background as a bank teller, or in another non-leadership role. But keep in mind that for any job in your resume’s Experience section, you should flesh out your description only to the extent it aligns with your job search goal. For the resume’s purposes, it doesn’t actually matter how long you held any past job. What matters is training a hiring manager’s attention on your directly relevant experience — in this case, your experience managing and improving bank operations. So even if you were a bank teller for six years previously, and have only been a branch manager for the past two years, the manager job description should occupy more space on your resume.
Example
Branch Manager, ABC Credit Union, New York, NY
2020 to Present
- Lead and motivate a team of 16 bank tellers carrying out various daily branch functions
- Renewed team’s focus on service quality, helping drive a 12-point gain on customer satisfaction surveys
- Introduced a new customer intake process that raised first-year retention by 14 points and contributed to 11% growth in overall client base
Bank Teller, DEF Bank, New York, NY
2014 to 2020
- Helped customers deposit, withdraw, and transfer money between accounts, and cross-sold additional bank products when appropriate
2. Use a straightforward tone
For nearly any piece of regular writing, it’s important to choose language that sets and maintains a clear tone or “voice.” That principle also applies to resumes, which call for a formal yet forthright tone (as opposed to the more casual tone of a LinkedIn profile and the eager, confident voice of a cover letter).
To achieve a forthright voice on your resume, try and use simple sentences and straightforward descriptions of your experience. Keep this advice in mind especially when writing your profile section, since you may be tempted (or think you need) to use overly “promotional” terms like Brilliant or Outstanding at, when a more direct phrase like Skilled in is better.
Example
Branch Manager with 6+ years of advancement and experience. Combine strong service focus with deep knowledge of financial products and investment vehicles. Skilled at executing business strategies for consistent growth and long-term success of branch operations. Committed to professional integrity and excellence in all endeavors.
3. Spell out your results
As a branch manager, have you been able to improve your bank tellers’ service standards? Or find ways to broaden your customer base? You can give your resume a boost by describing positive results like these, rather than simply outlining your duties. And be sure to quantify that impact with hard data if you have figures available.
Example
- Introduced new teller training and coaching program that raised morale and engagement, contributing to 12% higher staff retention in 2021

How to Align Your Branch Manager Resume With the Job Description
What size teams have you led? And what kinds of bank products or services do you specialize in? Keep details like these in mind when you’re looking at branch manager jobs that interest you. If a posting includes details about the bank that overlap with your own background, be sure to mention that in your resume profile. Taking this extra step will make your resume that much more relevant to the job at hand, and therefore more likely to attract the hiring manager’s notice.
